Preliminary Race Results Are Now Posted

As increasing numbers of swimmers jump into the waters around Manhattan each year, interest in the Manhattan Island Marathon Swim continues to rise. A perennial favorite of solo swimmers chasing the coveted Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming (MIMS, English Channel, Catalina Channel), the event has also become a huge draw for relay teams seeking a chance to swim one of the most memorable marathon courses in the world. We've added a second MIMS to the schedule in 2012: the Manhattan Island Relays on August 4.

A field limited exclusively to 4- and 6-person relays will allow teams to know exactly who (and where) their competition is, and August's warmer water temperatures will be much friendlier to team members who may not have the cold water training and racing experience of many of the June solo swimmers.

General enrollment is now closed. Enrollment for Corporate relays/teams will remain open until all slots are filled or July 20, 2012, whichever occurs first. If fewer than five corporate relays enroll, the unused slots will NOT be reallocated to other relay categories.

There is no minimum temperature requirement for 2012 Manhattan Island Relay qualifying swims.

For those of you interested in getting a paddler's perspective on MIMS, we invite you to read a piece about paddling for MIMS written by Richard Clifford, a veteran of more than a dozen Manhattan Island circumnavigations and numerous other paddling adventures.
