Just in time for triathlon season, come experience this spectacular course and location! Scheduled for June 16, three weeks before the extremely popular NYC Triathlon, here's a chance to practice open water swimming and race transitions. This fun and challenging multi-sport event combines a 1.5-km swim in the water off Manhattan from Randall’s Island Park and a flat, fast, scenic shoreline 5-km run in the shadow of four bridges, and with breathtaking views of the Hell Gate and the East River. Don't run? Enroll in the swim-only race on the same day (formerly known as the Riverside Park Tune Up Swim) or help out as a volunteer.
If you need to figure out how to get to the start or want to preview the swim and run courses, why not register to be part of the NYCeWheels-sponsored preview bike tour on Wednesday June 13? The ride starts at 6:00 PM on the Upper East Side, goes across the 103rd Street Footbridge and around Randall's Island Park before heading back to Manhattan. Loaner bike availability is limited, so enroll soon.

|Experience Requirement:||Safety concerns require us to ensure that every participant in a NYC Swim swim event has adequate swim experience; thus we have set certain qualifying standards for participation in each of our events. You may register for a NYC Swim event even if you have not completed a qualifying swim, and your enrollment will be approved upon verification of your qualifying swim details. It is your responsibility to submit qualification information. NYC Swim does not provide refunds or transfers for swimmers who are not approved to participate in an event.|
The experience requirement for participating in the Stars & Stripes Aquathlon and Swim is as follows:
The completion of any
NYC Swim open water swim or Aquathlon

, which can be accessed on your user profile swimmer page, documenting the completion of a continuous 1-mile pool swim (1650 yards/1500 meters) in 45 minutes or better since January 1, 2012. To provide the best indicator of open water ability and a solid basis for comparison with other swimmers’ pool times, the pool swim should ideally be done in a deep-water, competition-length pool. A USMS One Hour Swim of at least 2200 yards/2000 meters (entered with the coach or official in lieu of the lifeguard name) from January 2012 may be used to fulfill this requirement.
All pool certifications and qualifying swim information must be received by NYC Swim at least 14 days prior to the date of the race (no later than June 2, 2012). Swimmers who enroll after June 2nd must submit their qualification information to NYC Swim within 24 hours of enrollment. Participants' qualifications will not be accepted, reviewed or approved on race day.
