On June 24, 2006 NYC Swim will present the annual 28.5 Mile Manhattan Island Marathon Swim. This is our longest and premier event of the season, a full counter-clockwise circumnavigation of the island of Manhattan.

Directions to Start:By Car
From Manhattan and the Bronx: use either the southbound Westside Highway, or the FDR Drive to West Street. (See directions from West Street below.) From Queens and Long Island: use either the Queensborough Bridge or the Midtown Tunnel to the southbound FDR Drive. Take the FDR to West Street. (See directions from West Street below.) From Brooklyn: use the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel to West Street, or use the Brooklyn Bridge to West Street via the FDR Drive or Chambers Street. (See directions from West Street below.) From Staten Island: take the Staten Island Ferry to Battery Place. Battery Place wraps around Historic Battery Park and enters Battery Park City between Pier A and the Ritz Carlton. From New Jersey: use the Holland Tunnel and follow the signs to West Street heading downtown. (See directions from West Street below.) From West Street, turn west onto Chambers Street, Murray Street, Vesey Street, Liberty Street, Albany Street, West Thames Street, or Battery Place.

Public parking garages are available throughout Battery Park City and at the Battery Parking Garage between Greenwich Street and West Street. Entrances are available on Morris, Greenwich and Washington Streets.

By Subway
Take the (R) to Rector Street or take the (4,5) to Bowling Green. Walk due west. Cross West Street into Battery Park City. Continue walk west to the promenade along Hudson River and head to south to South Cove.

Please note that subway service on the 4 and 5 trains may be disrupted this weekend. The R train to Rector Street may be the closest available stop. Check www.mta.info for service advisories that may affect your trip.

By Bus
Take the M9, M10, or M22 to Battery Park City.

Please allow ample time to arrive at race check-in/start.

Time Limit:9:30 hours 
Age Requirement:19 years and over (Younger swimmers may be accepted based on swimming experience). 
Experience Requirement:4-Person and 6-Person Open Relay Teams
Qualifying Swims: All relay team applications must include complete information on each member of the team, including proof that each member has completed a qualifying swim. Members of four-person and six-person relay teams must complete one of the following to qualify:

- an open water swim race of at least 1500 meters since June 2003;
- a triathlon than includes a swim leg of at least 1500 meters since June 2003; or
- a NYC Swim open-water swim race of any length since June 2003.
- a continuous 1-Mile pool swim in 45 minutes or better (for 6-person relays) or a continuous 2-mile pool swim in 1 hour 30 minutes or better (for 4-person relays).

Each member of a 4-person or 6-person relay team must complete the qualifying swim by April 1, 2006. Relay members must submit an appropriate copy of, or a link to, swim race results as proof of having completed a qualifying swim; or a pool certification in a manner consistent with the sample template, which can be accessed on your user profile swimmer page.

The complete application and all fees must be received by January 13, 2006. NYC Swim will not consider any incomplete applications of 4-person or 6-person relay teams or any applications that do not include payment in full of the team entry fee.

Solo Swimmers & 2-Person Relay Teams
Qualifying Swims: Proof of the qualifying swim must be submitted by May 2, 2006. NYC Swim will rescind the acceptance of any solo applicant or two-person relay team which fails to submit proof of completion of its qualifying swim by May 2, 2006. The complete application and all fees must be received by January 13, 2006. NYC Swim will not consider any incomplete applications for solo swimmers and 2-person relay teams or any applications that do not include payment in full of the entry fee. Applicants who have their acceptances rescinded will receive a refund of all fees they have paid, excluding the $25 processing fee. 
Predicted Water Conditions:Seasonal Temperature 64/67°F (17/19°C). There can be a substantial amount of chop in the water from wind, tide action, and boat traffic. The waterways are saltwater and there is shipping traffic. There may be random jetsam and flotsam in the waterways.
